Description
57 King Street is a three-storey commercial property, likely dating from the 18th century. The front facade is finished in painted stucco and topped with a slate roof hidden behind a parapet. The upper floors feature a central window bay set back between broad piers, with a cornice that projects forward over the piers. The parapet has decorative blocks above the piers and a slightly recessed, shallow gable above the centre. The windows are 12-pane sash windows; the upper window has a sill course between the outer piers, while the lower window has a square-section cornice that projects forward over tapering, rounded section side drops. Tall, narrow panels are incorporated into the outer piers on each floor. The ground floor has been altered and now features a wooden shop front from the late 20th century, comprising a six-pane fixed window to the left of a half-glazed door with an overlight, all within a common casing of pilasters with brackets to each side of a deep fascia.
The right-hand side wall, facing Jackson's Lane, is rendered and contains a blocked door in the centre, along with three blocked windows to the ground floor right. Two 12-pane sash windows are visible above each floor, aligned with the outer of the three ground floor windows. The rendered gable end has 12-pane sash windows to the upper floors and in the gable itself. A stairwell at the rear of the shop has been enclosed.
