Description
The Cloth Hall is a commercial building located on a corner site, featuring a total of 7 bays: 4 bays on the King Street elevation, a wide canted bay at the corner, and 2 wide bays on Queen Street. The design reflects a simplified version of 1930s classicism, inspired by an earlier structure. The building is finished in painted stucco and stands 3 stories high with a parapet that has a moulded cornice. The upper floors are adorned with giant pilasters that have moulded bases and capitals, positioned between each bay, with five pilasters on King Street and three on Queen Street, while the canted bay has none. The windows, likely from the 1930s, are metal with 6 panes, and each bay features vertically linked windows by a plain panel. The ground floor shop fronts were completely renewed in 2002, and a black marble foundation stone at the plinth on the extreme right reads: "This stone laid by Raymond Montague Burton 1935". The ground floor was entirely remodelled in 2002, and the upper floors were altered in the 1930s.
