Description

45-5a King Street is a three-storey commercial premises, likely dating from the 18th century. The building is faced in painted stucco and has a close-eaved slate gabled roof with a rendered 20th-century chimney stack on the right-hand side. It has two bays, with moulded stucco surrounds to the windows, including small brackets beneath the sills. The upper floor has horned sash windows with marginal glazing. The first floor features larger tripartite, horned sash windows. A late 19th-century shop front occupies the ground floor, extending the full width of the building. It has a recessed central doorway and flanking windows, each of two lights, set within a common casing of timber pilasters and a moulded cornice supported by enriched scroll consoles. The cornice continues above a moulded five-panel house door to the left, which has a plain overlight. The rear of the building is taller and includes a full-height basement, accessible by basement stairs.
