Description

4 High Street is a terraced house that has been converted into a shop. It features painted stucco with a slate close-eaved roof and a brick stack at the right end. The building stands three storeys tall with three closely spaced bays. There is a timber eaves board, and the upper floor has plate glass sash windows that are relatively long and narrow. The ground floor has 20th-century fixed plate glass windows on the left and center, which are shorter than those on the first floor, and slate sills. To the right, there is a 20th-century half-glazed door with an overlight.

The rear of the building, facing Dark Street, is four storeys high and rendered, featuring a large external chimney breast on the right with several sloping set-offs. There is a modern brick stack set back on the main gable. A possibly medieval pointed door is set in a grey limestone surround made of squared stones, leading to a plank door. Above this door is a square modern window, and at ground level, there is a canted oriel with panelled piers between plate glass sashes, flanked by horned four-pane sashes on either side of the chimney for the two upper floors.

The interior has not been inspected, but the ground floor has been altered for use as a shop, while the basement contains a pointed barrel vaulted medieval cellar.
