Description
Borough House is a terraced house dating from the 19th century, featuring painted stucco and a slate gabled roof. It stands four storeys tall with two bays. The building has a plinth, a channelled ground floor, a sill band beneath the top floor, and a moulded cornice with a parapet. The top floor includes two plate glass square sashes, while the other floors have hornless 12-pane sashes, each topped with moulded cornices on console brackets. There is no main door to the primary section of the house. The top floor band and cornice extend around the side elevation, which features two attic lunette windows.
To the right, there is a low two-storey single-bay range with wide openings on each floor and a high plain parapet. The first floor has a pair of cambered-headed large sashes beneath a long cornice on consoles, while the ground floor has a similar cornice over a wide doorway that has a 20th-century renewed door with sidelights and a log top light. Access is via three broad sandstone steps.
The side wall faces down High Street and has curved corners, an open-pedimental gable with gabled blocks on the shoulders, two large first-floor sashes, and a prominent ground floor oriel window above a basement. The sashes feature cambered heads on the top panes, and the oriel window has fluted angle shafts and a moulded cornice.
The rear of the building is taller by one storey. The left section includes a sash window at basement level. The main part features an arched door and window at basement level, with the door being renewed and the window being a 6-pane sash. The upper floors have hornless 12-pane sashes, with a broad sill band beneath the top floor's 6-pane hornless sashes, all topped with a moulded cornice and parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
