Description

No 4 St Julian Terrace is a terraced house, part of a pair, dating from the 19th century. It features a painted stucco facade with three storeys, an attic, and a basement, comprising two bays. The building has a parapet and a 20th-century slate-hung gable at the rear, which includes a 12-pane sash window. The slate roofs are complemented by red brick stacks on the right side.

The front displays 12-pane hornless sash windows, with an arched doorway to the left set within an ornate moulded timber pedimented surround. This open pediment is supported by large console brackets resting on pilasters adorned with moulded panels and caps featuring acanthus leaf designs beneath each console. The pediment frames a small anthemion motif, and capital mouldings extend around the panelled reveals, forming an impost band. The entrance consists of a six-panelled door topped with a fanlight that has radiating bars.

The area is enclosed by railings on dwarf stucco walls, with uprights featuring fleur-de-lys finials alternating with wire loops, although some uprights are missing from No 4. Five steps lead up to the front door, with similar railings that include an additional spearhead within each loop. There are basement steps descending to the right.

The rear of the house is similar to the front, featuring a slate-hung gable behind the parapet with a 20th-century sash window. The larger gable belongs to No 3, which is rendered, while No 4 is slate-hung. Both houses have two 12-pane sash windows on the second floor and a two-storey centre bay window with casement lights, which were renewed in the late 20th century.
