Description
Lower Castleton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th to 18th century, constructed in unpainted roughcast with a long slate roof. It features a large external stack at the north end and a rendered stack on the ridge between the house and the south service range. The house has a two-storey façade with a three-window arrangement of 4-pane sashes, which have painted slate sills. The window above the door is smaller and possibly a later addition, while the lower windows are larger. The entrance is located in the centre, set within a slate-roofed gabled porch that is also roughcast. The north end stack has a broad base and a slated slope leading up to the base of a straight shaft. A rounded, slate-roofed rubble bread oven projects from the north side. The service range is attached to the south under a continuous roof, with a slight setback in the wall, and there is one small sash window under the eaves to the left.
Additionally, there is a two-storey outbuilding attached to the northeast, which is constructed of whitewashed rubble stone.
