Description
West Lodge is an early 19th-century lodge for the Orielton estate, closely resembling the ruined Gamekeeper's Cottage at West Orielton. The building features whitewashed render and a deep-eaved slate roof with a central ridge stack. Originally, it had three brick octagonal stacks, but only one rendered stem remains. It is a single-storey structure with a T-plan layout and a double-fronted facade that includes Gothic details. There is a shallow pedimental gable above the center. Each side of the entrance has paired pointed windows, with matching paired overlights above the door, all recessed in painted stucco surrounds that are likely brick, similar to those at Gamekeeper's Cottage, with rusticated sides. The windows have small panes and Y-tracery heads, and there are heavy painted stone sills with reeded leading edges. The entrance features a ledged door and painted angle quoins. The rear wing has a rendered octagonal stack at the eastern end.
