Description

Brick Hall is an early to mid 18th-century estate house located on the Orielton estate. It features a whitewashed brick facade built on rubble stone, topped with an imitation slate roof and brick end stacks. This rare 18th-century brick front is two storeys high and five windows wide, with the brickwork recessed in two bays on either side of the center, creating a raised plinth, a band, an eaves band over the upper windows, angle strips, and a central bay. The upper floor has five small pairs of casement windows with thin slate sills, while the ground floor has a blank central door set within a later brick gabled porch that includes a matching plinth and a cambered-headed doorway. The lower windows feature thin stone keystones. The east end wall is made of whitewashed rubble stone, with raised angle strips, one ground-floor 12-pane window, and two 6-pane casements above. There is also a rear lean-to that was added with a roof raised in the 20th century.

This early brick building is significant as it is rare for the area and may have been built around the same time as the Orielton mansion, which underwent remodelling in 1810. Before this remodelling, Orielton was said to be constructed of brick and stone, and the Orielton tower is also made of these materials. It is possible that the brick facade covers an earlier building, as the east fireplace is deep enough to suggest that the blocked window was originally intended for symmetry, and the brickwork encases sash-boxes in other locations.

Inside, there are two heavy beams in the southeast room, one of which is cut short and supported by a timber post. The central staircase is plain and features a window that looks through to the lean-to.
