Description

Maes Caled is currently three cottages, with the one on the right having formerly served as the lodge to Bryn-yr-Odyn. The building is one and a half storeys tall and features a three-window elevation with a gable at the center. It is constructed of coursed rubble masonry and has a moderately pitched slate roof with deep eaves and exposed purlins supported by brackets with corbels. There are twin diagonal stone flue stacks on a rectangular base and water tabling.

To the left, there is a raking dormer with two-light casement windows. The gable features a canted oriel window supported by a moulded stone bracket, topped with a fishscale slate roof and modern glazing. A Victorian Gothic open gabled timber porch with stone sidewalls is located at the center, showcasing paired Tudor arches, a billet moulded tie-beam, scalloped bargeboards, and fishscale slates. The porch has paired, diagonally planked Victorian doors adorned with decorative straps.

Above the left side, there is a moulded returned label over three round-arched lights of a dressed stone window, and a similar label over a modern window to the right. The extreme right has a two-light dressed stone window. The right gable end features a cambered arched three-light window with round-arched lights. To the left, there is an ashlar closed porch with a shouldered gable parapet on kneelers above a pointed doorway, which has a datestone from 1832 at the apex. The fishscale slate roof continues with a two-light mullion and transom window to the right, also with a label. Finally, there are ashlar gatepiers with stepped caps at the former gateway on the left.
