Description
Maes Caled is a 1.5 storey building featuring a three-window elevation with a gable at the center. It is constructed from coursed rubble masonry and has a moderately pitched slate roof with deep eaves and exposed purlins supported by brackets with corbels. The building has twin diagonal stone flue stacks set on a rectangular base with water tabling.
To the left, there is a raking dormer with two-light casement windows. The gable features a canted oriel supported by a moulded stone bracket and topped with a fishscale slate roof, which has modern glazing. At the center, there is a Victorian Gothic open gabled timber porch with stone sidewalls. This porch has paired Tudor arches, a billet moulded tie-beam, scalloped bargeboards, and fishscale slates. The entrance consists of paired, diagonally planked Victorian doors adorned with decorative straps.
Above the porch, there is a moulded returned label over three round arched lights of a dressed stone window to the left, and a similar label over a modern window to the right. To the extreme right, there is another two-light dressed stone window. The right gable end features a cambered arched three-light window with round arched lights.
On the left side, there is an ashlar closed porch with a shouldered gable parapet on kneelers above a pointed doorway, which has a datestone from 1832 at the apex. The roof is covered in fishscale slates, and to the right of the doorway, there is a two-light mullion and transom window with a label above. Ashlar gatepiers with stepped caps mark the location of a former gateway to the left.
