Description
Maes Caled is a 1.5 storey building featuring a three-window elevation with a gable at the center. It is constructed of coursed rubble masonry and has a moderately pitched slate roof with deep eaves and exposed purlins supported by brackets with corbels. The building includes twin diagonal stone flue stacks set on a rectangular base with water tabling.
On the left side, there is a raking dormer with two-light casement windows. The gable features a canted oriel supported by a moulded stone bracket, topped with a fishscale slate roof and modern glazing. A Victorian Gothic open gabled timber porch is located at the center, flanked by stone sidewalls. The porch has paired Tudor arches, a billet moulded tie-beam, scalloped bargeboards, and fishscale slates. The entrance consists of paired, diagonally planked Victorian doors adorned with decorative straps.
To the left, there is a dressed stone window with a moulded returned label over three round arched lights, and a similar label over a modern window to the right. The extreme right features a two-light dressed stone window. The right gable end has a cambered arched three-light window with round arched lights. An ashlar closed porch is located to the left, topped with a shouldered gable parapet on kneelers above a pointed doorway, which has a datestone from 1832 at its apex. The fishscale slate roof continues with a two-light mullion and transom window to the right, also featuring a label. Ashlar gatepiers with stepped caps mark the former gateway on the left.
