Description

A row of three cottages, likely dating from the early 19th century, situated on the west side of Higher Street in Norton Sub Hamdon. The cottages are constructed from ham stone, some of which is ashlar, with thatched roofs between stepped coped gables. Brick chimney stacks are also present.

The cottages are single-storey with an attic. They have four bays in total. The windows are casement windows with horizontal bars; a two-light window features in the lower part of the second bay, while the others are three-light, including upper windows within swept dormers in the third and fourth bays. Timber lintols are above the windows in the first two bays, and concrete lintols in the third and fourth. A boarded door is located between the second and third bays, accessed by four steps of lias stone, and covered by a conoid thatched hood. Each gable end also has a door with steps, and an open porch – the porch to No. 1 has thatch, while the porch to No. 3 has Welsh slate. The south gable has a pair of two-light hollow-chamfer mullioned windows set in chamfered recesses without labels on the first floor. The north gable features one plain two-light mullioned window. The interiors were not inspected during the listing process.
