Description

Knapp Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. It is built of Ham stone ashlar and features a plain clay tiled roof with stepped coped gables and brick end chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and consists of four bays. It includes a plinth and a band course, with horizontal-bar casement windows that are three-light in the outer bays and two-light in the inner bays, all with voussoired flat arched heads. In the lower bay three, there is a six-flush-panel door set in a recess, featuring an architrave and a moulded flat stone hood supported by corbel brackets. To the north gable, there is a single-storey extension with a clay pantiled roof. The interior has not been seen. Approximately three metres east of the house, there is a near-ashlar wall about 750mm high topped with cast-iron railings about 450mm high. The railings consist of two square horizontal rods set diagonally, with cast uprights at approximately 1.5 metre intervals. There are also wrought iron gates opposite the door to the house, which match the railings and enhance the setting of the farmhouse, prominently located at the end of Little Street.
