Description

ST4615 NORTON SUB HAMDON CP HIGHER STREET (West side) 9/218 Knapp Farmhouse and front boundary wall and railings - GV II Detached farmhouse. Early C19. Ham stone ashiar; plain clay tiled roof between stepped coped gables; brick end chianey stacks. Two storeys, 4 bays. Plinth, band course; horizontal-bar casement windows, 3-light to outer bays and 2-light to inner, with voussoired flat arched heads: to lower bay 3 a 6-flush-panel door in recess with architrave, under moulded flat stone hood on corbel brackets. Single-storey extension with clay pantiled roof to north gable. Interior not seen. About 3 metres east of house a near- ashlar wall about 750mm high with cast-iron railings about 450mm high, consisting of 2 square horizontal rods, set diagonally, with cast uprights at about 1.5 metre intervals; pair gates opposite door to house, wrot iron to match, all adding to the setting of the house, in a prominent position facing the end of Little Street.
