Description
Brownslate Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse that includes an earlier service range. It is constructed of roughcast rubble stone and features slate roofs with stone end stacks. The tall two-storey front has four bays, with a whitewashed appearance. The upper level contains four 4-pane sash windows, while the lower level has four 20th-century casements with top-lights and a 20th-century central door with a 19th-century overlight. The south end stack is prominent, projecting from the end wall.
To the side, there is a lower two-storey service wing that has a large outside north end stack, which is stepped in at the southeast angle, and a stone-coped north gable. The north end of the service range shows signs of altered eaves and features a massive projecting stone about one-third of the way up. There is one 4-pane sash window on the service range's front above the door and window. An attached lofted outbuilding runs east from the right side and includes a loft door at the eastern end. The service range also has a gabled rear wing with a north side stack and a long lean-to on the north side. The main house features a rear lean-to on the left and a central wing with a brick end stack.
Although not inspected, the outbuilding attached to the northeast end of the service range has a fireplace that connects to the main north stack and a curious blank opening above it.
