Description
Wallover Barton is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with additions from the 19th century. It is constructed of colourwashed rendered rubble and features slate roofs with gable ends. The building has an axial stack and a stack at the left gable end, both with brick shafts. The entire southwest side is slate-hung. The layout consists of a 3-cell through-passage plan, with a stack at the inner end of the hall, a right-angled wing at the front lower end that has a truncated gable end stack, likely from the early 19th century, and a right-angled wing at the centre rear, which dates to the late 19th century. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a three-window range of horned sash windows, with three over three panes, above a two-light hall window with six panes per light. There are 20th-century porches on each side; the left porch has a flat roof in the angle of the L-shape, while the upper end features a lean-to roof covered in asbestos slate. On the southwest side, at the lower end, there are three sashes, all with six over six panes. The leftmost sash is initialled and dated 1868, situated above two larger sashes with eight over eight panes. Inside, one 17th-century roof truss, which was originally fitted with threaded purlins, remains. The interior also retains much of its 19th-century joinery, including a separate staircase leading to the former servants' quarters over the upper end.
