Description
Down Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century and was altered in the 19th century. It is built from colourwashed rendered stone rubble and some cob, topped with slate roofs that have gable ends. The house features an axial brick stack and rubble stacks with tapered caps at the right gable end, which has been heightened in brick, as well as at the gable end of a right-angled rear projection. The building has a T-shaped plan, with single rooms on either side of a central staircase, and a two-storey projection at the rear that houses the kitchen and dairy range. The left side of the main range has been rebuilt and is slightly recessed, likely during the 19th century. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a four-window range featuring 19th-century two- and three-light casements, with three panes per light. A slated gabled porch with a wide six-panelled door is flanked by two three-light casements, also with three panes per light and timber lintels. There is a two-light casement with six panes per light at the left end. The interior has been altered.
