Description

Fernham Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the 17th century, which was remodeled and extended in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of colour-washed rendered rubble and features slate roofs with gable ends and clay ridge tiles. There are two roughcast rendered axial stacks with tapered caps, along with a rubble stack at the right gable end that also has a tapered cap and slate weatherings.

The original core of the house includes a through-passage and a room to the right, which has a stack backing onto the through-passage. The room to the left was likely rebuilt in the early 19th century and extended to include a granary that has now been converted into part of the dwelling. The rebuilding at the right end has a lower roof level.

The farmhouse is two stories tall and has a five-window range featuring 12-paned horned sashes. A gabled porch with a slate roof is present, flanked by windows on either side of a half-glazed door, with all windows having marginal glazing bars. There are 12-paned horned sashes on each side and French windows at the right end. At the rear, there is a slated outshut that is continuous except at the right end, where stone steps lead up to a granary plank door.

Above the porch is a sundial by Thomas Berry, dated 1819. Inside, there is 19th-century matchboard dado panelling in the room at the upper end, where latch doors also remain, although the rest of the interior has been altered.
