Description
Glebelands Farmhouse is a farmhouse that was once a rectory, dating from the 17th century with possible earlier origins, and featuring 18th century and early 20th century additions. The building is constructed from whitewashed rendered stone rubble and has a slate roof that is hipped at the left end and gable-ended to the right. It has axial and gable end stacks, all rendered. The original layout was likely a three-room through-passage plan, but the upper end was rebuilt, extended, and heightened in the 18th century, with an additional short range added to the rear left side in the early 20th century, running parallel to the main range. There are two short right-angled extensions to the front left side and the rear right side.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a four-window range. The two windows on the left side of the lower range are 19th or early 20th century three-light and two-light casements above a canted bay window with a slate roof. There is a six-panelled door to the left, which is sheltered by a shallow latticed wooden porch. On the right side, there are two full-height two-storey bay windows with hipped roofs topped with a crested centre ridge tile. Each floor features triple sashes, and there are single sidelight sashes. An early plank door with moulded cover strips is located at the left end.
Inside, there is a single roughly hewn beam in the room to the left of the through-passage. There may be a single early truss with curved feet in the inaccessible part of the roofspace over the lower end, although the other roof timbers have been replaced. The staircase features barley sugar balusters at the head of the balustrade and has a moulded handrail, but lacks balusters.
