Description

Kedworthy Farmhouse is a farmhouse that possibly dates back to 1680 and was extended at the rear in the 19th century. It features colourwashed rendered rubble and cob construction with slate roofs that have gable ends. There are large stacks on the left and a massive stack on the right gable end, both with tapered caps and drips, as well as a brick stack on the rear wing.

The original layout was a two-cell plan that is nearly symmetrical, with a cross-passage. A right-angled two-storey kitchen extension is located at the rear left, creating an overall L-shape, with a dairy outshut in the angle. The farmhouse is one and a half storeys high and has a three-window range. It includes gabled half dormers with slate-hung gables and two-light casements. To the left, there is a three-light casement, and to the right, a two-light casement, both featuring timber lintels. A projecting rubble porch with a lean-to slate roof has an inner plank door and seat niches. All the casements are from the 19th to 20th centuries, with six panes per light.

Inside, there is a partially exposed fireplace lintel at the upper end that is dated 1680 and initialled A.S. The original close-set joists are still in place. The lower end features a bread oven and a chamfered fireplace lintel with scroll stops that have an incised criss-cross design. The roof timbers have been replaced in the 20th century.
