Description

Hawthorn Cottage is a two-storey double-fronted cottage with a single-storey wing to the east. It is constructed of rubble stone with blue brick detailing and features a slate roof with deep eaves. The cottage has blue brick gable chimney stacks and two-light casement windows with slightly cambered brick heads. The upper two windows break the eaves under deep dormer gables. The central door is boarded and has a similar head to the windows. The end walls have overhanging verges, and the west end displays the gable line and chimney of an earlier house.

The single-storey whitewashed wing to the right is set back from the main structure. The main part of the cottage has a boarded door situated between two small-paned casement-pair windows, with the facade offset to the left. The right section is set back and has higher eaves, featuring a plank door on the extreme left and a small window to the right. There are 20th-century skylights in the rear roof.

The main house has a two-room ground floor plan, with a kitchen on the left that includes a small iron range in the fireplace, a half-glazed cupboard to the left, and a right-hand door leading to a cupboard under the corner stair. The kitchen has a slate slab floor. To the right is a small parlour with a pantry located behind it. The single-storey wing has a simple raftered roof and a cobbled floor in the right end room.
