Description

Tyn-y-mynydd is a two-storey cottage built in local rubble masonry, dating from the 18th century. It features a slate roof with a tile ridge and has a single central brick chimney stack. The front of the cottage is painted creamy white, with red-painted brick arches. The façade is symmetrical, with a central door flanked by two windows above and below. Each window has nine panes, fixed except for a metal opening casement in the bottom middle light. Stone sills are present, with the upper windows positioned against the eaves and the lower windows and door featuring brick arches.

There is a later small two-storey rear extension that is slightly off centre, matching the eaves height of the main building but with a lower ridge. This extension has multi-pane metal casements above and below, and a rear door located at the side.

The interior plan consists of two rooms with a central chimney, which has a fireplace serving each room. The central front door opens into what was originally a lobby between the rooms, but this space is now part of the right room. The door to the left room has been walled in. Originally, the left room included a small scullery at the rear, but this has been removed along with its partition, creating an opening at the back of the chimney to connect with the right room. The right room, which served as the kitchen, still has a hook for pots behind the bressummer and features a boxed-in staircase against its rear wall. The rear extension now contains a kitchen and a small additional bedroom above.
