Description
The stable range and associated courtyard walls at Hafod date from 1882, as indicated by a datestone. The stable range is a single-story L-shaped building constructed of rubble stone with slate eaves roofs and low gabled ventilators. Blue brick detailing is present, including keystones with impressed decoration, a quarter-round moulded eaves cornice, and brick arches. The south front is symmetrical, with a window in the outer bays and doors flanking paired central windows. The doors are boarded with two-pane fanlights, and the six-pane casement windows feature similar tilting fanlights. The blue brick arches have rusticated jambs and moulded keystones, with slate sills. The west front of the eastern range features a similar door and paired windows to the left, and paired large coach entries to the right, with brick piers, jambs and round arches. A datestone between the arches is inscribed 'J.W.1882'. The gable ends have overhanging verges. The north rear wall includes a pair of arched windows to the right.
The buildings overlook a lawned court, enclosed by low rubble walls. A short, low rubble wall runs south from the south end of the eastern range to a taller rubble wall along the south side of the court; a late 19th-century blue-brick archway is located towards the right of this wall, featuring a moulded keystone on its outer south face. An iron gate is present, as is a buttress to the right of the arch. The west side of the courtyard is enclosed by a high rubble wall running north-south, with traces of various blocked openings. At the north end, a single-story outbuilding runs west, with a hipped roof and a west-facing hipped porch. The north wall of the outbuilding has a door and window on the left, and a broader shuttered window on the right. The porch features a north-facing door. The south side has a broad shuttered window to the left of centre.
Inside the south-facing stable range, the stalls remain intact with high boarded sides and iron grilles above. The doors into the stalls have cast-iron posts with plain over-arches rising from ball finials, and the floor is paved with terracotta.
