Description
Fynnon Ddu is a substantial 2-storey farmhouse built in a T plan. The walls are made of coursed Silurian shale, and it has slate roofs with plain red ridges, shallow eaves, and verges. The eastern range features stone end stacks, and there is an additional stack on the rear ridge where the western wing meets. The windows are 2-light casements with timber latticed glazing, stone voussoirs, and slate sloping sills. The eastern front has three windows, with a 20th-century hardwood door to the left. The ground floor right window is a 3-light latticed replacement. The northern end has two similar windows on the first floor, while the southern end has one similar ground floor window to the left and an altered single-light window to the right. The southern side of the rear wing has a similar two-window range, along with a latticed triple casement in the western end wall. There is a northwest rear lean-to that connects with a 20th-century concrete porch.
Inside, the eastern range has a central passage and a cross-passage at the southern end. A roof member is dated 1864. The western wing contains a large open fireplace at the eastern end, featuring a heavy oak chimney bressumer and ceiling beams.
