Description
Blackhall Farm is a two-storey farmhouse featuring five windows and a lower range to the right, along with a large outshut at the rear. The front is rendered over rubble masonry and has slate roofs. There are two brick stacks at the ends and an additional stack at the rear. All windows have flat heads and stone sills. The front faces southeast and likely includes a symmetrical three-window addition to an earlier two-window range. The central entrance to the addition features a half-lit panelled door within a gabled, rendered porch, flanked by 16-pane hornless sash windows. Above these are three 4-over-8 pane hornless sashes. To the right of the addition is a narrow window, formerly an 8-pane sash but now missing the lower glazing bars, and a further 16-pane sash beyond. The upper floor has two 3-over-6 pane sashes offset to the left.
To the right (northeast) is a lower two-storey range with one boarded door to the left, a centrally placed window with plain glazing, and a 2-light casement window above.
At the rear of the house is a large masonry outshut with a slate roof. All openings feature segmental brick heads and sills. There is a boarded door to the left of centre, flanked by windows, with an additional window to the far right. The upper storey mirrors this arrangement but includes an extra window to the right. The northeast end of the outshut has a planked door at first-floor level, accessible by concrete steps. The rear of the lower range also has a first-floor door reached by the same steps, along with another door below. There are further lean-tos at the northern angle, one of which was likely a kennel.
A substantial rubble stone boundary wall connects to the house at its southern angle and extends southwest.
The interior was not accessible at the time of inspection on January 8, 1998, but it is said to contain evidence of the hearth-passage end-entry plan-form, complete with fireplace stairs.
