Description
Hen-gwm is a two-storey estate farmhouse, built in an approximately L-plan layout. The older part is the west cross-wing, while the long east wing appears to have been built in two phases. The main west and north fronts are finished in whitewashed stucco, while the rear south side is constructed from whitewashed rubble-stone. The farmhouse features slate roofs made of small slates, with flush eaves and verges, except for the west wing, which has a projecting north verge. Yellow-brick gable-end chimneys and one ridge stack are present on the east wing.
The west range has a substantial external stone chimney breast, which is raised in brick at the south end, indicating that this part of the building has been remodelled from an earlier structure. There is a small yellow brick stack on the north side. The ground floor has two windows offset to the left and two slightly smaller, evenly spaced upper windows. A lean-to is located at the south end, featuring a 20th-century glazed door, and there is an apparent end entry into the west range next to the end chimney. The north gable-end has two similar windows on each floor.
The long east wing is set back to the left, with a ridge stack marking the construction break. The right inner part has a four-panel door to the right, which includes two glazed panels, and is topped with a moulded door-hood that displays the house name and an unclear date, possibly 1642 or 1842. There is a window to the left and two smaller windows above. The left part of the east wing has a two-window range with similar detailing. The east gable end features a door to the left of centre, which has a single latticed upper panel, along with a small casement above. Both openings have brick cambered heads. A plastic French window is located to the left of the door. The rear south side is constructed from rubble stone and includes an outshut.
