Description

The building is a mid to later 18th century brewhouse located to the northeast of Ty Glyn. It also served as a malthouse and dairy. The structure does not appear to be marked on the 1843 Tithe Map, which may be an error.

The exterior features whitewashed rubble stone with a slate roof and a large square stone stack at the south end. It has a basement, is one storey high with an attic, and is double fronted with a door situated between two slatted windows. The stone voussoirs are notable, and above the door, just below the eaves, there is a loft door with a hipped slate roof. Each side of the building has a dormer window with a similar hipped roof. The north wall is made of rubble stone and includes a basement window. The rear wall has a lean-to structure to the basement on the left and one window, along with a first-floor window. There is a buttress at the southeast corner and a basement door in the south end wall.

Inside, the ground floor features a massive timber lintel above the fireplace. The north end room has dairying slate slabs, and the roof is supported by collar trusses with scarfed wall-posts.

This building is included for its historic interest as an unusual survival of an estate brewhouse and for its group value at Ty Glyn.
