Description
The granary at the southern end of the farmyard at Ty Glyn is an early 19th-century timber-framed structure built on staddle stones. It is notable for being the only example of this type found in South West Wales, which is more commonly seen in South England. Inside, a pencilled date of October 16, 1834, has been noted by the door. The granary does not appear to be marked on the 1843 Tithe Map.
The exterior features a square plan supported by nine Bath stone staddle stones, which have tapered square bases and round wheel caps. The timber frame is clad in horizontal boarding, with a ledged door on the west side and a louvered window on the east. The roof is a slate pyramid.
Inside, there is a central passage flanked by four boarded grain bins, which have sloping dividers and are supported by two chamfered octagonal posts. The roof structure includes crossed tie beams and a central octagonal post.
This granary is included for its special interest as a unique agricultural structure in the area, possibly imported from England.
