Description
Pont Newydd is a rubble-built bridge featuring two segmental arches, with stone voussoirs and a recessed design on the downstream side. The southern arch is wider and lower than the northern arch. On the upstream side, there is a broad triangular cutwater situated between the arches, with a slight projection on the widened side that likely indicates a former cutwater. The bridge has long parapet walls topped with both slate and stone-slab coping, which continue as retaining walls that are splayed to the northeast to help contain the river bank.
