Description

The Parish Church of St Michael is a single chamber structure featuring a west bell-cote and a west porch. It is built of rubble with a slate roof and overhanging eaves. The west gable has a parapet and a bracketed bargeboard on the east side. The tall west bell-cote has a rounded gable and a round arched opening that houses a medieval bell. Each side of the church has four tall, narrow round arched windows with stone voussoirs, leaded glazing, and cut-stone sills, which were added in 1905. The easternmost window on both sides is set apart by a three-step buttress, with the eastern window and buttress on the north side being additions from 1905. The east end features a stepped triple lancet window from 1905 with Doulting stone dressings. The west end has three-step diagonal buttresses and a small gabled west porch with a round arched entry and paired boarded doors with stone voussoirs.

Inside, there is a boarded inner door with decorative strap hinges, a round arched head, and stone voussoirs. The nave retains its original 18th-century collar-truss roof with paired purlins, while the chancel roof, added in 1905, features arched braces on stone corbels and king-posts. The chancel and sanctuary are raised, and the east window contains a coloured central light from 1905 by Percy Bacon of London. There is a round arched recess in the north wall of the sanctuary, along with early 20th-century memorial tablets.
