Description

This is a stable range, likely built in 1768, situated on the east side of the farmyard at Ty Glyn. The range is constructed of rubble stone with a slate roof. Originally, it comprised two double-fronted stables. Each stable initially featured a window, a door, and a window, all with stone voussoirs. The right-hand stable remains largely intact, retaining a ledged door and a fixed six-pane window. The left-hand stable has been altered, retaining one window and a door, with the original right-hand window replaced by a tall, wide opening. A cart-shed has been added to the left end, under the same roof line and open to the north. A door has been replaced with a window on the front wall to the left, and a similar alteration exists on the rear wall to the right.

On the south gable end, a sundial is set into the wall, inscribed with the Latin phrase "Sic transit gloria mundi 16 LL.P. 24 UT HORA SIC VITA." A slate panel beneath the sundial reads: “The above old dial was fixed in this wall 1768.” The dates may relate to the construction of a 17th-century house for Llywelyn Parry and subsequent rebuilding work by Henry Jones. A blocked opening is located below the sundial.

Internally, the original stable fittings have been lost. The roofs are supported by pegged collar-trusses with face-pegged and scarfed posts. The building is included on the list for its group value with other listed buildings within the farmyard. The Royal Commission on Historic Monuments, Aberystwyth, holds further details.
