Description

The Marine Hotel, located at numbers 49-52, is a three-storey building with a basement and attic, featuring stucco and cement render frontages. The Marine Hotel has eight windows, while numbers 47 and 48 have two windows. The ground floor of the Marine Hotel is channelled, with pilaster strips, and the adjacent numbers 47 and 48 have rusticated quoins. The building has a slate roof with wide bracket eaves and rubble and brick chimney stacks. Pitched roof dormers with bargeboards are present on the Marine Hotel, while numbers 47 and 48 feature camber-headed slate hung dormers. Throughout the building, there are bay windows of varying sizes, all with horned sash glazing, wide cornices, and panelled aprons. Numbers 47 and 48 also have glazed porches on the ground floor to the right, with end pilaster strips on number 48. The Marine Hotel has a modern main entrance, but retains an original entrance to the right, which features a bowed and twin fluted column Doric doorcase, panelled reveals, and half-glazed doors. There is a similar entrance that has been blocked in the adjacent bay, and number 47 has panelled doors.

The rear elevations are constructed of rubble and include cross ranges with mostly small pane sash windows, including exceptionally tall 24-pane staircase windows. A modern extension to the Marine Hotel is noted as not being of special interest.

Inside the Marine Hotel, the entrance hall retains an ornate cornice with foliage detail and an arched opening to the stairwell. There are bolection moulded doorcases, panelled doors, and some lettered glass present.
