Description
This is an L-plan range of farm buildings located on the north and west sides of the farmyard at Monachty, dating from the mid-19th century. The cow-house and cart-shed are not shown on the 1843 Tithe Map.
The exterior features rubble stone construction with slate roofs. The long single-storey L-plan range has a hipped roof at the northwest angle and the south end, and it connects to a lofted barn at the eastern end. The cow-house consists of thirteen bays with doors and windows arranged in the sequence: DWWDDWWDWDWWW. The stone voussoirs are notable, and the windows have 20th-century glazing. The rear wall includes a regular series of small square openings. The western part of the building is an open-bay L-plan range, with four bays facing south and four facing east, supported by square piers. There is a door in the south end wall.
Inside, the building features bolted collar truss roofs and grooved brick and tile floors, with a feed passage along the back wall.
This extensive 19th-century cow-house and cart-shed range holds group value with the other notable farm buildings at Monachty farmyard.
