E range of farmyard at Monachty

The E range of the farmyard at Monachty is a mid-19th century lofted outbuilding, possibly a barn, which once housed an engine for turning shafts. It is not marked on the 1843 Tithe Map.

The exterior features rubble stone construction with slate roofs. The tall lofted west front has a broad cambered headed doorway flanked by large cross-windows, with stone voussoirs. Above the door is a slightly narrower large loft door with a timber lintel positioned under the eaves. The south end has a large lean-to with a tall depressed arched opening, double doors, and a large glazed overlight. There is a similar door on the rear east side, facing the road. The rear of the main range includes two ground floor windows, one of which has been converted into a door.

Attached to the northeast corner is a cow-house range that runs to the west and is listed separately.

Inside, the ground floor is brick paved and features a raised platform at the north end, along with remains of shafting. This building has group value with the other exceptional farm buildings at Monachty.
