Description

Monachty, also known as Mynachdy, is a Grade II* listed building featuring a symmetrical and well-proportioned neo-classical design on its entrance facade, which has six bays. The exterior is finished in colourwashed roughcast with raised stucco strips. It has slate hipped roofs, deep bracketed eaves, and whitewashed stuccoed stacks. The south front is two-storey with six windows, showcasing a slightly projecting pedimented two-window center and two stacks located behind the ridge. The first floor is adorned with six 12-pane sash windows, with the center two being closer spaced. The four ground floor windows feature full-length 18-pane sashes, and there is a broad enclosed porch at the center.

The porch includes a cornice, a low parapet, paired pilasters, and a wide doorway with paired panelled doors topped by a traceried shallow arched fanlight. Each side of the porch has a single window with paired pilasters. The east end of the building has a two-window layout with angle piers, and the ground floor features a large pilastered and corniced canted bay with three long 12-pane sashes. The west end includes a three-bay conservatory with a monopitch glass roof against a stuccoed coped wall and a canted hipped west end, also with 18-pane long sashes and stuccoed pilasters.

The northeast rear wing is likely the earlier part of the house, dating from the mid-18th century, and has been remodeled to match the main structure. Its plain six-window east facade features angle piers, an eaves band, 12-pane sashes on the upper floor, and 18-pane sashes below. The roof has a valley with a double hipped north end and an end stack. The west side of the wing has a basement and a flat-roofed single-storey addition at the right angle, which includes three windows above and, to the left, a door with an overlight and 12-pane sashes on each floor to the left, along with 12-pane sashes lighting the stairs to the right. There is also a single-storey addition at the north end with a hipped roof.
