Description
The covered dung-pit at Monachty Farmyard is a mid to late 19th-century structure. It is a sunken pit that is lined with stone and has a sloping entry from the east. The dung-pit is topped with a large slate roof that is hipped to the west, supported by six red brick piers on each side, which are set on low red-brick walls that are partly lined with rubble stone. The eastern end is open, while the western end has two bays. The brickwork on the northern side has been largely renewed. The roof features five bays and is constructed with bolted collar trusses. This unusual Victorian farmyard structure is listed due to its rarity and its group value with the other exceptional farmyard buildings at Monachty.
