Description
The gates and railings at North Lodge date from the mid-19th century and served as the entrance to the former northern drive to Monachty, which is not shown on the 1843 Tithe Map. The structure features four whitewashed rubble stone piers topped with concrete caps. Between the outer piers are low, slightly curved lengths of wall made of whitewashed rubble stone, adorned with thin spearhead railings. The double iron gates are ramped down to a meeting stile and include curved strengthening bars, a latticed mid rail, and spearheads on both the top rail and over the mid rail. Additionally, there are dog-bars positioned below the mid rail. This structure has group value with North Lodge, which is located at the former northeast entrance to Monachty, a significant country house in the area.
