Description
The L-Plan range of farm buildings at Aberkinsey Farm is a Grade II listed structure. The western range is likely the oldest part of the site, possibly dating back to the 16th century. It originally featured a cruck-framed building, with two pairs of crucks still visible, one of which is exposed in the southern gable wall. The building currently consists of three bays, including one cruck truss and a later kingpost truss, and has been extended by an additional bay to the north. It is constructed from coursed and squared stone and topped with slate roofs.
The northern range was probably designed as a cowhouse and stable but is now used for grain storage. Built in several phases, it is primarily from the early 18th century and is depicted on a map from 1756, with some later additions and alterations. The western bays are made of well-coursed and squared stone, while the central section is constructed from rougher mixed stone, with some brick repairs in the eastern section. Modern additions obscure the northern elevations. The earliest part is likely the central section, although the eastern gable appears to be from the same construction phase, which has undergone extensive brick repair on the southern elevation. Originally serving as a cowhouse, this building featured a series of six doors, four of which are now partially blocked and serve as windows, all with segmentally arched heads. There are two square loft entries and straight vents above. The rebuilt eastern bays have paired outer doorways and two small square windows to the left, with a single loft entry above. The western section represents a separate phase, possibly once a stable, featuring paired central doorways (one now blocked) and small outer windows with boarded shutters, along with two loft entries above, one of which is also blocked.
