Description

Rhoscellan Fawr is a farmhouse that features a roughly symmetrical layout, flanked by a service wing and a lofted stable wing. It is constructed from squared local Wallog stone, laid in courses, and topped with slate roofs made of small slates. The building has raised stone gable parapets, which are characteristic of a group of local farmsteads in this exposed area.

The house includes stone end chimneys with corniced caps and dripstones, with a larger stack on the left side. It is a two-storey structure with a three-window range, showcasing late 19th-century four-pane sash windows that have voussoired cambered heads and slate sills. A central stone porch features a slate roof and stepped stonework on the front gable. The open doorway has stone voussoirs with a flat head, leading to a ledged door with a four-pane overlight. There are gable-end loft lights, including a 12-pane square sash window on the west end and a casement window on the east.

The service range to the left has an end stone chimney and a two-storey front. It features a ledged door on the extreme right and a 20th-century two-pane sash window to the left, both with stone voussoirs. On the first floor to the left, there is an original small square sash window with 12 panes, arranged four wide by three deep. A similar sash window is located in the west gable above a small lean-to.

To the right, the lofted stable has central ledged double doors with an exceptionally large stone lintel and a blocked opening above. There are outside stone steps on the left side leading up to a ledged loft door, and a rear outshut that includes a cold-room.
