Description
The lime-kiln at Wallog is a large, squat rectangular structure dating from the 19th century. It is built into sloping ground and features three open sides, with loading access located at the rear. The kiln is constructed from coursed Wallog rubble-stone, incorporating some coarsely dressed stone. Each side of the kiln has a battered wall, corbelled coping, and central arched openings leading to the kiln-eyes. The arches are made with cut stone voussoirs, complete with keystones and raised outer arch rings. Inside, the kiln-eyes are barrel-vaulted and splayed down to the furnace openings, while the inner furnace area is lined with fire-brick. The top of the kiln is now covered in grass, and the central crucible has been infilled with loose stone and debris. Large non-dressed coping-stones surround the rim of the structure.
