Description
The Old Farmhouse at Llawr Llan Farm is a former house that has been converted into an outbuilding. It is built from rubble stone, which was colourwashed in 1991, and features a slate eaves roof with a rubble stone chimney at the right end. The building is a single storey.
The front elevation faces west and includes two windows of different sizes to the left and a full-height 20th-century door in the centre. The left window is a two-light design with a chamfered surround and a mullion, featuring two diagonally-set wooden bars. The central window is also a two-light design, but it has ovolo-moulded jambs and a mullion, along with two diagonally-set bars and a timber lintel. There is a straight joint between the windows that does not extend fully to the ground.
On the uphill side at the south end, there is a large shuttered loft entry to the left. The downhill side at the north end has a weatherboarded gable with a 19th-century two-light window with a timber lintel on the ground floor, as well as a small shuttered loft window. The rear of the building features a projecting wall to the left of a boarded door, followed by a pair of casement windows with a timber lintel.
The interior was not available for inspection, but in 1991 it was noted to have a direct entry plan, with a lofted area extending to the downhill part beyond a studded wattle and daub partition. There is a massive chimney stack on the uphill side, and the original purlined roof trusses rest on projecting sole plates. The hall truss retains a scarfed collar, and there is a chamfered main beam leading to the loft.
