Description
The Old Farmhouse at Penlanolau is a stone farmhouse notable for its high mix of white quartz rocks, particularly visible at the corners and in both end chimneys. It features a late 20th-century metal sheet roof that has replaced the original slates, with close eaves and stone end stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a two-window front without a door, showcasing four 6-pane horned sash windows. The ground floor windows are set slightly wider apart than the upper two windows, and there are brick flat arches above the windows with sills that are likely slate but covered in cement. At the rear, there is an outshut, with the only entrance to the house located at the west end of this outshut. A very small 4-pane sash window is found in the rear wall of the outshut, near the doorway, and another small 4-pane sash window is located at the east end of the outshut.
Inside, the ground floor was divided into two rooms. The ceiling beam at the west end encloses a fireplace that has been partly infilled with red brick. Access to the second room was not possible at the time of the survey. A quarter-turn staircase with winders leads up to the first floor, which contains two wooden room partitions.
