Description

The building is a lofted cowhouse and stable at Llawr Llan, constructed from rubble stone with some timber framing and a corrugated iron roof. The long six-bay front features a four-bay cowhouse on the left, which has four doors with timber lintels (one of which has been replaced with concrete) and a band of fifteen panels of timber framing beneath the eaves. To the right is the lofted stable, which includes two square windows with timber lintels and brick sills, along with a central gabled eaves dormer. The left end of the building has a central square window flanked by doors with timber lintels and a large loft opening in the gable. The rear of the structure has a rubble stone lean-to addition. The right end gable features a large boarded loft opening, a ground floor stable entry, a window door, and a window, all with moulded timber lintels. The door has a moulded oak frame but is missing the left jamb, with the mouldings featuring a stepped ovolo that appears to be flattened, possibly dating to the early 18th century rather than the 17th century. The right window is blocked.

An additional lower single-storey weatherboarded range from the late 19th century has been added to the right, linking to the back wall of the former farmhouse to the west. This range has an open bay on the left, providing access to the stable.

Inside, the loft floor is supported by heavy chamfered beams. The cowhouse loft has four bays with five pegged tie-beam and collar trusses, which have braces under the tie-beams connecting to the posts of the timber-framed band. The stable, which consists of four bays, also has five chamfered beams. The added link range has four bays with tie-beam trusses.
