Description
The barn at Llawr Llan is a 19th-century structure featuring weatherboarded half-timbering with rubble stone end walls and plinths. The eastern front has an outshut addition to the right, flanked by stone piers that support double doors with a roof slightly lifted at the eaves. To the left of the double doors, there is weatherboarding with one door positioned left of centre and double doors at the extreme left, all of which are full-height. The southern gable is weatherboarded over rubble stone and includes an added weatherboarded lean-to. The northern end is constructed of rubble stone and has six vent loops.
On the western side, a tin sheet has replaced the weatherboard between the stone piers to the left of the double doors and on a short section to the right. There is also an added timber lean-to with a damaged southwest corner, while the original weatherboarded wall of the barn is visible within and to the right of the lean-to.
The barn has a six-bay roof supported by pegged tie-beam trusses with angle struts, including one truss with collar and queen struts. It features heavy construction with massive pairs of lapped purlins in the upper three bays and jowled wallposts below the tie-beams. The barn consists of four bays, with trusses on either side of the threshing floor carried on stone door piers. The truss to the north of the threshing floor, which has a collar, includes slots for timber-framing and may be a reused element. One bay to the south of the barn has a raised floor, while the upper bay contains a cart-shed with a loft.
