U-Plan Farm Ranges to W of Knowle Farmhouse

U-Plan Farm Ranges, located to the west of Knowle Farmhouse, date from the mid-18th century and are situated on a slope. The barn and cowhouse range features rubble end walls with brick dressings, a rubble plinth, and a weatherboarded loft and gables topped with an iron roof. It consists of a three-bay barn with large double doors leading to the threshing bay. The interior includes stud walls with diagonal bracing, tie-beam trusses supported by two sets of angle struts, and large windbraces. One partition bay reveals the base of 18th-century brickwork, and there is a flagstone threshing floor.

The 19th-century calf pens form the west side of the ranges and have a single-storey weatherboarded front with a slate roof.

There is also a cowhouse or stable, which may date from the late 18th century. This structure has two storeys, with high rubble base walls featuring brick dressings, a weatherboarded and iron loft, and an iron roof. The doors have been replaced with boarded versions.

Lastly, a granary built in the late 19th century adjoins the east end of the stable. It has rubble base walls with brick dressings, a weatherboarded loft, an iron roof, stone external steps next to the yard elevation, and a boarded door.
