Farm Range about 30m N of Ferndale Farmhouse

The building is a farm range located about 30 meters north of Ferndale Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It consists of a barn and a cowhouse/stable block.

The barn features three bays, with one end serving as a loft above a stable below. It is weatherboarded and has boarded double doors and shutters, topped with a slate roof. The structure is constructed with stud framework that includes diagonal bracing interrupting the vertical studs, jowled bay posts, and tie-beam trusses with angle braces and a central iron rod. The central threshing bay has boarding on the lower sections of the partition framing.

The cowhouse/stable block has a lower roof-line and is also from the early 19th century. It is weatherboarded with a loft over the studwork and has an iron roof, along with boarded doors and shutters. The rear wall features small square pitching holes and ventilation slits. Inside, the original boarded stalls remain, complete with mangers and racks. There is a transverse feeding passage, eight stalls, and a calf pen. At the lower end of the slope, two pigsties adjoin the building. The rear walls are made of rubble, while the front is weatherboarded and has a slate roof.
