Description
The Cruck Barn at Rhosfawr is a Grade II* listed building, aligned northwest to southeast down the slope of the ground. It features timber framing set on a stone platform that levels the site. The timber framing is clad in corrugated iron, while the front slope of the roof has a corrugated covering, and the rear retains slate tiles.
The barn consists of four bays, with crucks at the gables and a central truss. It has box frame trusses with collar and tie beams at the dais partition and passage partition. There are two tiers of trenched purlins with heavy curved wind braces, although some of these braces are missing. The structure is partially lofted at the lower end. The central bays form a hall, and the large lower bay, which has its own exterior door, was likely used as a chamber rather than a byre, as access to the exterior would have been difficult for animals. Behind the dais partition, there are two small rooms that were probably service rooms. Some interior details are obscured by the cladding.
