Description
The Smithy is a two-storey building dating from the 18th century, constructed with rendered and lined stone and topped with a slate roof. It features a symmetrical front elevation with two bays and a short two-storey rear wing. The central gabled porch has a segmental-headed outer arch that leads to a 20th-century oak front door, which is set in the original chamfered frame. The windows are paned moulded timber cross windows, placed within deep chamfered surrounds. On the upper floor, there are two raised and gabled dormers that have similar surrounds. The bargeboards of the dormers and the main end gables finish with spike finials, and the ends of the building are hung with slate. A central stack made of buff brick has two diagonally set shafts. The interior was not accessible during the inspection in September 1996.
