Description

This is a 17th-century timber-framed farmhouse. It originally comprised two bays, with a lobby against a gable stack, and has been extended with a rendered stone and brick bay beyond the stack. The timber frame stands three panels high, incorporating corner braces and surviving lath and daub in the upper tier, with brick infill below. A 3-plank front door is original, as are the timber 3-light windows. A secondary entrance leads to the back kitchen. Three gabled dormers light the attic space. The brick stack to the left of the front door has been rebuilt, incorporating an added fireplace at the parlour end. The farmhouse was formerly extended at the lower end with timber-framed cowhouses.

The main living hall features twin chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, an open fireplace with a high timber lintel and an iron Excelsior range including an oven on the rear wall. A timber-framed partition defines the inner rooms, a pantry and back kitchen. The added room behind the stack served as a parlour and contains a late 19th-century overmantel and a stair to the attic floor.
