Description
Nos 1 and 2 Concrete Cottages are a pair of double-fronted, two-unit cottages built in rendered concrete and topped with a steeply-pitched slate roof. They are two storeys high and feature gabled stair projections along with lean-tos at the rear, designed in the Gothick style. Each cottage has a central ridge stack with four diagonally-set shafts and a corbelled cap. The front facade includes angle pilaster strips, a plat band, and moulded architraves. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with each house having a three-light window on the left and a four-light window on the right, along with a blind window above the porch. The centrally-placed porches feature a cusped arch supported by moulded capitals and have a concrete slab floor. The gable ends have a single two-light window in the upper storey.
The cottages have planked front doors, and the stair projection includes a single fixed light in the upper level. A lean-to brick bake house was added to the left of the rear in the late 19th century, which has a ledged and battened door and a bread oven still in place.
Access was not possible at the time of inspection in July 1996, but it is reported to be identical in form and materials to No 1.
